REVIEW
The Aberdeen born photographer Ray Smith has a considerable reputation as one
of the most innovative photographers working in Scotland.
His latest range of Landscape images will go along way in making him a household
name.
Ray's subject matter is time honoured among
Scottish photographers; the environs of Aberdeen harbour and the surrounding
rural landscapes, including the ubiquitous Bennachie.
However, I doubt if
you've seem them quite like this, not unless you've been up at day break with
Ray stalking that magical fleeting moment.
Forcing the viewer to rethink their
everyday environment is obviously one of Ray's talents, and the fact that
he has captured these scenes with such a cool, lucid power puts him well
apart from the norm. Who would have thought that Broadhill or Murcar beach
could look like settings from an epic mythic movie, yet Ray achieves that,
leaving us simultaneously beguiled and impressed.
